Connected system improves research reproducibility and operational efficiency through continuous lab performance monitoring

WHAT: PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader committed to innovating for a healthier world, today announced the launch of its Asset Genius™ system for Laboratory Monitoring, the latest addition to the Company’s OneSource® Laboratory Services and analytical solutions, to help customers move one step closer to a fully-connected lab.

Partnering with Elemental Machines, the Asset Genius solution continuously monitors lab and asset conditions advanced analytics to provide critical utilization data for a 24/7 lab-wide view. The technology eliminates the costly, time-consuming process of manually collecting and recording data—ultimately helping to boost lab productivity, and advance research.

HOW IT WORKS: Wireless sensors monitor lab and asset parameters, such as temperature, humidity, air pressure and light, plus utilization of equipment like freezers, refrigerators, ovens and incubators, to ensure that potential problems are addressed quickly.

Data is stored and accessed on a cloud-based platform to allow scientists, as well as lab and facilities managers, to access information at any time from a computer or mobile device. Configurable notifications and proactive alerts reduce the risk of unscheduled downtime of critical lab assets by ensuring all personnel are notified of a potential problem when conditions change.

By aggregating real-time monitoring data with service and operational data, the Asset Genius solution provides comprehensive insight into utilization and productivity metrics for more informed decision-making. Through the interactive visualization dashboards, operations leaders can also view current and historical data to identify trends, support compliance requirements and improve asset management strategies.

WHY: “The ‘Internet of Lab Things’ (IoLT) presents a tremendous opportunity for laboratory and testing environments to transform not only the way they work, but also the products and solutions they bring to market,” said Jim Corbett, Executive Vice President and President, Discovery & Analytical Solutions, PerkinElmer. “With the Asset Genius system, our customers now have the fundamental tools to successfully initiate a larger IoLT strategy in their labs. By streamlining lab personnel time, optimizing assets and correlating lab environmental conditions with instrument performance, this solution improves operation efficiency and insight to increase research reproducibility.”

MORE: PerkinElmer’s OneSource Laboratory Services provide the most comprehensive portfolio of professional lab services for analytical equipment in the industry, supporting complete care programs for nearly every technology and manufacturer, with a global team of certified, factory-trained customer support engineers.
