PerkinElmer Showcases Innovative Environmental Health Offerings at Analytica China

September 23, 2014 at 12:00 AM EDT

WHAT: PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader focused on the health and safety of people and the environment, today introduced its Real-time Sensor Network (elm.china.perkinelmer.com) and featured the DairyGuard milk powder analyzer at analytica China 2014 held at Shanghai New International Expo Center.
HOW: The Elm offering is an air monitoring service that provides localized, indicative, real-time air quality information to citizens and communities online. The Elm service relies on a network of sensor probes placed at locations that can benefit from real-time, local air quality readings with a range of indicators including ozone, particulates VOCs and NO2.

Cities are equipped with traditional regulated air quality stations that can provide readings on an hourly or partial-hour rate. With the Elm service, cities and citizens can access localized, relevant indicative quality information near their home, schools and work. The Elm network complements regulatory stations which are placed in only select locations in communities. The Elm network's sensor probes are smaller and cost effective, enabling the availability of new information about air for cities, communities and citizens. This provides an important perspective and complements conventional monitoring practices.

"We are very excited to introduce our innovative Elm solution which leverages PerkinElmer's detection capabilities and expertise in environmental monitoring to transform how air quality is understood and explained," said Jon DiVincenzo, President, Environmental Health, PerkinElmer. "Using a novel approach, the Elm service is designed to create better awareness, empowering all of us to connect our understanding about the quality of our environment with its long-term impact on our health - helping cities and their populations make smarter, more informed decisions."

With the Elm offering, city administrators can gather new insights to drive smart urban planning, optimize industrial plans, and measure the impact of environmental policies. Meanwhile, residents may use the Elm service to limit or avoid outdoor exposure during hours in which severe air pollution may occur. PerkinElmer intends to expand its existing network for its Elm service, which currently consists of more than 200 sensor locations in 10 countries.

PerkinElmer is also showcasing its DairyGuard milk powder analyzer, a near infrared (NIR) spectrometer specifically developed for food suppliers and manufacturers, at analytica China. The DairyGuard analyzer is the only system available that tests for unknown adulterants as well as known compounds.
WHERE: At analytica China 2014, PerkinElmer is exhibiting a wide range of its most advanced offerings in detection, imaging, informatics and service.
