PerkinElmer Introduces Supra-d™ QuEChERS Dispersive Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) Solution for Improved Pesticide Residue Analysis
WALTHAM, Mass. – May 9, 2012 – PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader focused on improving the health and safety of people and the environment, introduced the Supra-dTM QuEChERS Dispersive Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) solution for sample preparation using the QuEChERS method (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, Safe). This method, the most widely used approach in pesticide residue analysis, helps to ensure the safety of fruit and vegetables from contaminants.
The QuEChERS method utilizes fewer and simpler steps for the extraction of pesticides from produce, eliminating the need for cumbersome liquid extraction processes used by current methods to remove pesticide residues. The two-step Supra-d dispersive SPE extraction and clean-up kits provide high recoveries for more accurate analyses and are up to four times faster than traditional methods, with reduced solvent usage to minimize environmental impact and delivering additional cost savings. Once extracted, PerkinElmer’s AxION TOF MS, Clarus® GC product family, Clarus® SQ 8 GC/MS, Flexar™ LC , or Flexar SQ 300 MS systems are used to detect and quantify a wide range of pesticide types.
“We are committed to improving solutions that help ensure the safety of our food supply for the health and well-being of people around the world.” said Jonathan Dilley, vice president of Commercial Operations & Products, PerkinElmer. “The QuEChERS procedure significantly reduces sample preparation time, which helps our customers improve lab productivity and reduce potential analysis error. With increasing concerns of fruit and vegetable contamination, food suppliers and regulators can be confident in the accuracy of identifying the presence of multiple unwanted pesticides with this solution.”
PerkinElmer offers all three standard QuEChERS methods: Original, American AOAC Standard (Method 2007.01) and European Standard (EN 15662). In addition, PerkinElmer offers a wide range of traditional SPE products of polymer and silica sorbents for labs performing organic sample analysis.
