October 22, 2012 at 12:00 AM EDT

PerkinElmer Inc., a global leader focused on the health and safety of people and the environment, is hosting its 5th Revolutionaries for Global Health Summit on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.  The Summit is a platform for researchers, physicians and government to network and share best practices in science and business, and participate in cutting-edge discussions to help lead to better prevention, detection and treatment of disease.  In 2012, more than 3,000 key customers have already attended this summit series with over 1,000 customers attending in China alone.  The meeting program features world-renowned experts presenting key insights on finding, understanding, and acting upon the causes and effects of disease.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in six informative tracks totaling 48 presentations in the following areas: in vivo imaging, informatics, next generation sequencing & molecular diagnostics, biotherapeutics, epigenetics, and cell & tissue imaging. The summit brings scientists together to share valuable insights and spark innovative discussions.  It is also an opportunity to attend workshops that will provide product specific training, an overview of PerkinElmer's technology solutions, product updates, tools, tips and techniques that can be applied immediately to help your research and improve your lab's efficiency.

A keynote presentation will be given by Terry Healey, author of At Face Value who will share the challenges he has had to overcome in battling a rare form of facial cancer - fibrosarcoma.   In addition, Kevin Hrusovsky, President Life Sciences and Technology, PerkinElmer will give a key note speech about PerkinElmer's crusade to revolutionize and personalize global health.  Learn how prevention, treatment and detection together play a fundamental role in eradicating disease, to access an audio webcast please dial (800) 659-1942 and provide the access code:  77158347 at 2:15 PST (5:15 pm EST) on October 24, 2012. Kevin will address how partnerships with customers advance the progress of understanding molecular interactions of disease.  Unfortunately, the pace of progress is not keeping up with the growing incidence of many chronic diseases. He will describe how environmental factors such as obesity, exposure to pollutants and stress are having a growing impact on health and may be outpacing our ability to innovate cost effective solutions for battling disease.  Kevin will also address how we are faced with a quadruple challenge to find: (1) better approaches for disease prevention, (2) diagnostics/screens for early stage detection and predisposition of disease, (3) personalized therapeutics that are safer and more effective, and (4) affordable healthcare access that doesn't cripple global economies.

Who: Over 300 of PerkinElmer's top global customers in the life sciences space will be in attendance at this summit. Recognized scientific leaders from organizations such as the Mayo Clinic, University of Miami, and the Einstein College of Medicine will share their experiences of how they are using PerkinElmer instrumentation to enable their research.
